The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists is a semi-autobiographical novel by the Irish house painter and sign writer Robert Noonan, who wrote the book in his spare time under the pen name Robert Tressell.  It tells the story of a group of working class men who live in the fictional town of Mugsborough and socialist journeyman come prophet Frank Owen who tries to convince his fellow workers that capitalism is the actual source of the poverty all around them.
